DO NOT give out your Host/ess, Community, Chat Ops or Minister passwords for any volunteer tools or boards to ANYONE...that includes other volunteers. Doing so is a dismissable offense. If someone needs a pass have them contact [email protected]
Anyone...who is a volunteer...who uses profanity, vulgar language, bigotted pharases on a FC public message board (this includes all community message boards) , web site or in any of the FC chat rooms (this includes all community chat rooms) will be immediately dismissed. No extenuating circumstances will be considered.
Anyone...who is a volunteer who blatantly insults another person on a FC message board (this includes all community message boards) , web page or in an FC chat area (this includes all community chat rooms) will be suspended from their volunteer duties for no less than one month and up to three.
On message boards
within categories, use the rule of "criticize in private, praise in public."
If there is an
inappropriate post,
whether it be spam, a non FC housed commericial ad, an insult, or foul
language...ask the Community CG to remove the post and for them to email
the resident. Don't respond/comment to it on the board.
I don't expect everyone to like everyone, I don't expect volunteers not to get in arguements. I do expect behavior in any public forum to be polite and respectful. Anything less not only reflects poorly on the volunteer who is doing it but on FC and does not promote a positive and helpful community spirit.
So any arguements or disagreements you have or volunteer discussions etc keep them out of the public areas...do it via ICQ, via e-mail, if you have too...but not on public forums. This includes not bashing others on the various volunteer message boards.
At FC we do not find it appropriate in any public venue to disparage a competitor. Volunteers of FC, are specifically disallowed from it and may loose their position over it if it is chronic. FC is to be a caring community and by demonstration attract citizens. Disparaging remarks about another company or individual will be removed from all FC message boards.
Free speech requires also responsibility, here once again is what is disallowed on FC message boards (this includes all community message boards) and the action FC is willing to take to stop it:
Disparaging remarks about other free web space servers: Removal from message board, writer is e-mail warned, if they are a volunteer and it is repeated they will be dismissed.
Advertising URLs not housed on FC: Message is removed, writer is e-mail informed.
Insulting another person purposefully: Message removed, writer informed, if volunteer warned, perhaps put on probation or dismissed. Also one never, ever, ever can write a rude email to an FC resident or use profanity with them, (no matter what the provocation)! If I receive complaints and proof of such the volunteer will be suspended or immediatley dismissed.
Bigoted/hate statements regarding race, creed, color, or sexual preferences: Message removed, if FC resident the site will be removed automatically. If volunteer they will be dismissed immediately. Also ISP action such as banning permanently the person from FC is sometimes deemed necessary.
Profanity: Message removed, writer informed, if volunteer, immediate dismissal.
The above guidelines of appropriate behavior also apply in all FC chat rooms (this includes all community chat rooms).
It is the purpose of FC volunteers to create a caring/nurturing community. When volunteers say negative things about each other or anyone else this does not foster that. The negativity of volunteers towards each other will invariably filter down to residents. There is an old rabbinic teaching that says that gossip hurts both the participant and the accused. Try to live in your today...for those of you who raise children, think how you thwack them when they get out of line but in the next moment give them another chance to try again. We all need to stretch ourselves and learn to give beings opportunities to succeed, to show our caring by keeping our mouths shut if we have nothing nice to say. If an individual needs to be corrected or something negative needs to be known to a person who is in charge of appointing a volunteer, share that with the person privately by email to them, not via a group discussion/announcement.
For those of you who feel it is your personal right to say anything about anybody because it is your opinion...and a FC passworded board is a licence to gossip and or say negative things about another, including accusing individuals of negative behavior...well I suggest you should seriously consider not being a volunteer. You will always get called on this behavior in private and be subject to dismissal for it.
"Being a volunteer has changed my life in a good way. Through FortuneCity I have learnt to share with people my knowledge. Furthermore the interaction with citizens and the thank you's you sometimes get by helping them is really a very good feeling to experience. To be brief, being a volunteer is simply great !"Sincere greetings,

House Music CG"I like the feeling of being able to help people with even the smallest problems. I see difficult questions as an opportunity to learn things I didn't know, so resident and I both win. :-)"

Socializing CG"I enjoy helping others learn the enjoyment of the web and publishing. Especially I enjoy teaching young children how to build pages and how easy and fun it can be for them.

FC means: making new friends from all over the world.
FC is like a disease, but once you have it you don`t want to loose it.

Content Guide for the Going Places Community"Being a FC volunteer is very rewarding. Rewarding because we can assist others in making their webpages their own masterpieces. It is also a learning opportunity because we are also learning from others."
